Susan Santos Band and Underground Vault - The Boom Boom Club
All shiny and new at the refurbished Boom Boom Club but one thing that has remained from the former shell of the place is the sheer high quality of the musical fare that Pete Feenstra promotes at the club. Last night being a classic case in point as Spanish Blues Rock guitarist and vocalist Susan Santos and guests Underground Vault delivered a high octane show that was an absolute joy to behold.
Underground Vault, a four piece from West London opened proceedings and immediately settled in to a forceful groove of pulsating rock music. As the set progressed the band slipped in to out and out Blues Rock, Rock and at times there was an almost punky spike to the vibe. High energy, high quality and sure enough it soon put the crowd on their side.
Front man Blair Dollery was often the focal point with his deep rasp of a vocal and his searing fret work and he was ably backed up by taut rhythm guitar and a tight rhythm section.
For me the pick of the set was the incessant groove of Love Is Hate, the foot to floor malevolent rock of Colt and the mean and moody vibe of Ghosts.
Forty five minute set of quality and I am pleased to have made the acquaintance of Underground Vault.
