The Runaways were formed in 1982 with Tim Adams on rhythm guitar, Gary Bryant (GB) on lead guitar and then Ivan Thurlow on drums and still 35 years on with the new member Cliff Skinner playing on bass guitar completes The Runaways line up respectively.
Since reforming, The Runaways have been committed to producing a quality performance and are particularly renowned for their authentic representation of music from The Shadows, including the choreography!
In the 1980’s and 90’s the Runaways worked alongside famous names in the world of entertainment and as the backing band to original singing stars of the fifties and sixties. They also appeared as special guests on BBC radio and have made appearances on London Weekend Television and Sky TV. Most recently on BBC radio Essex and the James Whale web based radio show.
After receiving excellent reviews in various magazines, The Runaways signed a record deal with Polydor to release a CD in Japan. They have since recorded albums for Sweden and in Europe and their music is distributed to other countries. The Runaways' album "Into the Vortex" is still available and is being sold at the venues where the guys play and can be purchased on the night and even signed! The album consists of well-known tunes and vocal numbers played in an instrumental Shadowsesque style!
The Runaways continue to produce the highest quality sound and still rehearse routinely to perfect regular numbers and learn new ones to extend their repertoire. They also pay attention to the visual aspects of their performances and are always immaculate in their smart suits and memorable for their striking bright red guitars and those famous ‘walks’!
Audiences are constantly amazed by the range of sounds the band produces using guitar synthesizers and find it hard to believe that performances are completely live without the use of backing tracks as they switches effortlessly from the sound of the clarinet for Stranger on the Shore, through to the accordion for Sea of Heartbreak to piano in NutRocker for example.
Despite having worked with members of The Shadows and being renowned for the authenticity of their production of Shadows' numbers, The Runaways are far more than a Shadows tribute band. With the vast experience and individual talents of each member and their extensive repertoire of vocal and instrumental numbers, The Runaways produce a performance tailored to each venue/event and often receive standing ovations and unending demands for encores!
They will have you rocking in the aisles for sure, go see The Runaways!

I've seen some concerts before in my time, but nothing like the Runaways who are a great bunch of guys, and one of the best tribute acts by a mile even beating the concerts that I've seen to date. so I would recommend them by a mile for anybody to go and see, if they came to an area near you. To make the effort to go and see them without a doubt. Ian H, An audience member of various Theatre shows.
It was good to finally meet up at last, and my thanks go out to you and the lads for such a professional performance last night. Feedback from our lot has been excellent, with lots of compliments regarding the band, so thank you so much for a great performance. Best regards Geoff, Cranbrook GC
