Soft Winds ~Jazz Quartet is a four piece line-up based in SW London / Surrey.
We are fronted by Don Stuart on saxophones, flute and clarinet, with John Wilkinson on jazz guitar, Malcolm Watts on bass and Jeremy Holroyd on drums. For smaller more intimate venues such as restaurants, we play just as a trio, without drums. We also support a jazz vocalist on some gigs.
All the players are very experienced, having been on the London and SE England music scene for many years, playing many different kinds of music, in pubs, clubs, private parties, society and corporate occasions, and charity fund-raising events.
Soft Winds is a jazz quartet, playing all the great jazz standards, including swing, latin, ballads, some bebop, and jazz- rock numbers, depending on the audience, the venue and the occasion. We can add a cool, atmospheric lounge jazz in the background of a corporate event or party, or we can liven things up and play classic up-tempo tunes for dancing to. With our guest female vocalist, the band becomes the centre of attention.
We have a wide repertoire, but typically, we play tunes such as: A Foggy Day, Ain’t Misbehaving, All of Me, Autumn Leaves, Black Orpheus, Come Rain or Come Shine, Days of Wine And Roses, Embraceable You, Fools Rush In, Have You Met Miss Jones, Here’s That Rainy Day, How Deep is the Ocean, Just One of Those Things, Midnight in Moscow, Misty, My Romance, Over The Rainbow, Polka Dots & Moonbeams, Satin Doll, Samba Cantina, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, Stardust, Stella by Starlight, Stranger on The Shore, Summertime, S’Wonderful, Stomping at the Savoy, Sweet Georgia Brown, The Girl from Ipanema, Wave, etc.
