A “banjo-centric” acoustic musician/entertainer. My main instrument is the 5-string banjo, which I try to use in new and creative ways, and I also incorporate acoustic guitar, mandolin, and dobro in my shows. With a song list of around 300 titles, plenty of stories to tell about the songs, and 40+ years as a traveling entertainer, I’m able to provide the right music and the right mood for any situation. Most of my shows are solo, but I’m able to assemble a solid acoustic/Bluegrass band when requested.
Music is an Americana mix, rooted in straight-ahead Bluegrass and branching out to include many other styles. My influences range from Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs to Peter Seeger, Bob Dylan The Beatles, and even show tunes and classical music.
I’ve played banjo and acoustic guitar for 50 years, and I have reasonable skills on mandolin and dobro. The banjo has taken me all across the U.S. and overseas, as a solo artist, as a member of bands, and in theatrical productions and orchestral performances. Some of the more notable venues include Opryland, USA, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (Family Stage), the High Sierra Music Festival, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. I was also honored to be chosen by the U.S. Department of State to perform at events in Israel and Panama.
I know approximately 300 songs, ranging from children’s classics to folk, Bluegrass, and country standards to rock and jazz. Over my years as an entertainer, I’ve developed a good sense of how to “read a room” to select what songs to play, and I enjoy taking requests. I’m confident that I can provide the right music for almost any occasion.
