Born to an Australian father and a Taiwanese mother, Caitlin Magee grew up calling six countries home. From day one, Caitlin’s world has been surrounded by a blend of international sounds and impressions after following her parents’ footsteps around the globe - traveling East Asia to the Middle East. Originally trained as a classical oboist, Caitlin discovered the world of jazz and soul at the age of 16 as she began to perform regularly at jazz festivals, music venues & lounges, fronting ensembles and collaborating with elite musicians.
Caitlin’s voice has been described as a smooth blend between the soulful power of R&B, combined with the passionate sensitivity and improvisational fluidity of jazz. With her mature voice and sparkling personality, Caitlin has blazed a path in the Asian jazz and popular music scenes, bringing a wealth of experience, craft and virtuosity to each project. Her bilingual English-Mandarin performance abilities and cultural upbringing equips Caitlin with the ability to command the stage and connect with an international audience. Ultimately, Caitlin desires to connect the world through music - the one language that every culture shares.
In 2017, Caitlin’s electro-fusion band Ultrahang won first place at the Taichung International Jazz Festival Competition. Most recently, Caitlin was a resident vocalist at Taipei’s premiere music lounge, SMEXY. She has also appeared as a resident vocalist at Brown Sugar, featuring as the lead singer of MODA directed by award-winning music director MUSA. Additionally, Caitlin has performed live on national Taiwanese television and appeared in many session recordings.
Caitlin can perform in many styles such as including jazz, R&B, soul latin, pop, disco & folk songs. Caitlin is bilingual in English and Chinese Mandarin, and is able to host and perform in Chinese at ease as well as able to perform songs in multiple languages.
